Tax advisory · North Carolina based, serving clients nationwide

Your business deserves a tax advisor, not just a filing service.

One advisor who knows your name, your numbers, and where you're trying to go, working with you all year, not just in April.

A quick hello

Most people meet their tax preparer once a year and hope for the best.

I'd rather know your business well enough to see the moves worth making before the year closes, so nothing about your return is ever a surprise.

Who I work with

If your taxes have gotten complicated, you're in the right place.

I work with a small number of clients whose situations have real moving parts, where good planning changes the outcome.

i.

Business owners

S-corps, partnerships, and growing companies that need reasonable-comp strategy, entity decisions, and a plan, not just a return filed.

ii.

Real estate investors

Rental portfolios, short-term rentals, and 1031 exchanges — where depreciation, material participation, and timing decide what you keep.

iii.

Complex individuals

Multiple income streams, equity, and life changes that make a standard return the wrong tool for the job.

How I work

Less scramble in April. More thinking through the year.

The relationship is the point. Here's what working together usually looks like.

01

We actually talk first

Before any paperwork, we sit down in-person or on a call, so I understand your business, your properties, and what you're building toward. No intake form can do that.

02

I find the moves worth making

Entity structure, retirement contributions, depreciation strategy, PTET elections: the decisions that matter happen during the year, while there's still time to act on them.

03

Filing becomes the easy part

When the return is just the record of a year we already planned well, tax season stops being stressful. You already know roughly where you'll land.

04

I'm here when things change

Bought a property? Hired your first employee? Thinking about selling? Those are conversations to have before you act and I'm a call away when they come up.

Where I go deep

Real expertise, explained in plain language.

Depth without the jargon. Here's the kind of work I handle every week.

S-corp & entity strategy

Reasonable compensation you can defend, accountable plans, and choosing the structure that actually fits how you operate, plus the payroll compliance that keeps it clean.

Real estate & rentals

Cost segregation, short-term rental treatment, passive-loss and material-participation rules, and 1031 exchanges mapped to your specific portfolio.

Year-round planning

Routine check-ins, estimated-tax strategy, and projections so you're never guessing what you owe — or scrambling for it.

North Carolina specifics

PTET elections, state conformity quirks, and multi-state sourcing handled by someone who works in these rules, not around them.

Complex individual returns

Equity compensation, investment income, and the QBI, NIIT, and AMT interactions that trip up software and one-size-fits-all preparers.

When the IRS calls

Notices, payroll-tax issues, and penalty abatement. Straightforward help getting it resolved instead of ignored.

About

Why I built a practice this way

I started Barry Tax Advisory because the best tax work I'd ever seen didn't happen at a desk in April. It happened in conversations throughout the year, between someone who understood the rules and someone who trusted them enough to plan out loud.

"I'd rather have thirty clients I know well than three hundred I only meet once a year."

That's the whole idea. A smaller roster means I remember your properties, your business, and the plan we made last spring, so every recommendation is built on what's actually true for you, not a template.

The easy first step

Let's talk it through.

No pressure, no obligation, just a conversation about your situation and whether working together makes sense. That's how every good relationship here starts.
